Jones won a weightlifting championship while still in high school. She later became an arm wrestler and won 15 world championships in the sport during her career. Jones had no plans to become an actress at first, but she auditioned for the role of a female bodybuilder in the 1992 television series Knights and Warriors. Following a larger role in Lizzie McGuire in 2001, she landed her big break as a high-school coach in the musical comedy-drama series Glee.
