Laura Dern made her film debut in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and later starred in Ladies and Gentlemen and The Fabulous Stains. She first received critical acclaim for her roles in Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, and Mask. Dern had also auditioned for the iconic role of Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, but was turned down due to the studio’s skepticism about her celebrity.

After starring in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993, the actress rose to international prominence. Clint Eastwood contacted Dern for the film A Perfect World the same year. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris in the political drama television film Recount.
