Harper Lee
Harper Lee is a cultural icon and is one of the most popular American authors in history. She is the author of To Kill a Mocking Bird and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1961. With her success, she received countless industry accolades and honorary degrees. In addition, she earned a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007 for her contributions to literature. For those unfamiliar, To Kill a Mocking Bird is loosely based on the author’s observations of her neighbors and family.
It’s also about the events around her hometown in the 1930s.Lee only published two books in her lifetime. She wrote Go Set a Watchman in the mid-’50s, but released it in 2015. Sadly, she passed away a year later, at 89. She never married, but she left a will that stated that most of her assets be transferred to a trust she opened in 2011.
